After Hours Access to the Health Sciences Library

After hours access to the Health Sciences Library under the following procedures is limited to University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and Harborview Medical Center (HMC) staff and residents who are handling patient care emergencies.

• UWMC or HMC staff or residents should call the University Police at 543-9331 and ask them to radio the HSB Security Guard on duty. The requester needs to arrange a place to meet the guard - at the Security Guard office, T281D, HSL entrance, or an outside entrance.

• When requester meets the guard he/she will be required to show valid UW or HMC identification prior to admission.

• The Security Guard must remain in the Library with the person at all times. The guard may exercise his own judgment as to how long the user may remain in the library; but in most cases the individual should know what he/she is looking for and be able to locate it quickly. If the guard has to respond to an emergency call, the user will have to leave the library when the guard is absent.

• If the user is unable to locate the information he/she needs, the Security Guard will call one of the following librarians in the order listed for assistance. Materials may be removed from the library only with the permission of the librarian on call.
