Hello,
Many of you have used the new Password Table... but I need to clarify that the Password Table only includes passwords that users need if they are ON A UW IP. In other words, it is not an exhaustive list of all possible passwords. Some resources have alternate password workarounds, but we did not want to include these on the Password Table because they have limited concurrency, and because we wanted to strongly encourage people to use the Proxy Server.
How can you tell if there is a password workaround to a resource? A good example is Cochrane Library, on the databases page. Click on the "i" icon to see the restriction. If it says "UW IP or userid/password," then there is a password available to non-UW IP addresses. Click on the restriction type to see what to do next. Here is the message you get: "This resource is restricted to computers with UW IP addresses, including off-campus computers using the UW Internet Connectivity Kit (UWICK) or the UW Libraries proxy server. If you cannot connect by one of these methods, contact hslhsser@u.washington.edu for assistance. Alternative access from other computers is possible with a user id and password."
If you are working with a group and you know they cannot use the Proxy Server, there is a special password request form. This form is not on HealthLinks, because we want everyone who can use the Password Table to do so, and because we are encouraging the Proxy Server whenever possible. But for all of those who need another way, there is this form: https://healthlinks.washington.edu/hsl/forms/special/passwords.html
The short answer, if you get in a pinch or are not sure what to do: contact me! I hope this helps. Please ask if you have further questions!
