ENTERING RECORDS FOR ELECTRONIC RESERVES

From the Course Reserves section of the Denali Circulation module:

Press B

To select B > Key a BIBLIOGRAPHIC-ITEM record

Type 051
subject to change

To select 12 > cirers : Electronic Reserves , the bib record template for electronic reserves

Type 12
subject to change

To select 08 > crcers : Electronic Reserves, the item record template for electronic reserves

Press n

When prompted Check for duplication? (y/n)

Press y

When prompted Do you want to key MARC records? (y/n)
Keying MARC records allows you to enter a hot-linked url for the reading

Press y or n

as appropriate when prompted Do you want to key SUBSTITUTION phrases? (y/n)
NOTE: If you are entering multiple electronic reserve items, you will want to answer yes to this question in order to create short cuts for entering long strings of data.

Press y

When prompted Are all options as you want them? (y/n)

Press [enter]

At the AUTHOR MARC tag 100 prompt to accept the MARC tag

Press [enter]

to leave the author’s name blank.

Press [enter]

At the TITLE MARC tag 245 prompt to accept the MARC tag

Type THE ITEM TITLE and press [enter]

The title should be in capital letters
Example: +LIST OF ELECTRONIC RESERVE MATERIALS FOR XXXX
where XXXX is the abbreviated course name/number as it appears in the III course name.

Press [enter]

At the MISC MARC tag 85640 prompt to accept the MARC tag

Type the reading’s connection information in MARC format and press [enter]

MARC format for the url is |ureading url|zConnect to this title online; UW restricted
Example: |uhttps://eres.lib.washington.edu/coursepage.asp?cid=121&page=01|zConnect to this title online; UW restricted

Press [enter]

At the I TYPE : 30_ line to accept the I-type

Press [enter]

At the LOCATION : eltxt line to accept the location of Electronic Text

Press I

To I > Insert a new field

Press B

In response to the question Tag of new field? _ to add a barcode field

Scan a new barcode

and place the barcode on a sheet of paper labeled with the course name. This will be used the link the readings to the course record. If you prefer, you can create a record without a barcode and use the title to link it to the course record.

Examine the record

for accuracy and edit it if necessary.

Press Q

to Quit

Press A

To A > ADD record to data base

Press y or n

As appropriate to answer the question More records to key? (y/n) as appropriate

Put the Item Record on Reserve for the Course

This is done the same way you put a book on reserve. It's an easy step to forget, so please double-check your work.
