are paid by the School of Medicine and follow
a different pay scale and have different pay periods. |
Student employees, except Systems Student Assistants, are eligible
for a step increase after working 150 hours at a step. The granting
of a step increase, which must be approved by the supervisor,
is based on the student employee meeting performance expectations.
For a "Student Assistant," Step F is normally the top
of the pay scale. The "Top of Grade" rate is used to
compensate a meritorious long-term employee after the employee
has been at the top of the established rate per hour for more
than six months. Performance at a meritorious level is marked
by consistently exceeding performance expectations in quality
and quantity of work, in job knowledge, and in working relationships.
Time Records
You are responsible for recording the time you work. You need
to sign in every day and to complete your individual timesheet
every pay period. Please be accurate. Our timesheet program can
account for your minutes, so you don't have to round off. If you
round off in favor of the library, you're cheating yourself out
of well-deserved income. If you round off in favor of yourself,
you're stealing from the University and can be terminated for
it.
See your supervisor for instructions.
At the end of each pay period:
- Print your timesheet on the appropriate colored paper
- Sign your timesheet
- Give it to your supervisor
Pay Periods
The normal pay periods for students who work for the UW Libraries
are:
| The 5th to the 20th |
Paid on the 10th of the following month |
| The 21st through the 4th |
Paid on the 25th of the month |
So there is about a 3 week lag between the last day of the pay
period and the day you are paid.
Work study students and Microlab students have different pay
periods, but the same pay days.
Paychecks are availabe in the Administrative Services area of
the HSL after 12:00 pm on the 10th and 25th of each month. If
payday falls on a Saturday, you may pick up your check on the
preceeding Friday. If payday falls on a Sunday, you may pick up
you check on the following Monday.
You may also arrange to have your paycheck directly deposited
into your checking account.
